Why Choose a Custom Website?
John Riehl, May 20, 2018
Choosing to build a custom website is a significant investment. The initial version of this website has 17 internal pages, an interactive web form, integrated search, and a little custom art and
design. Were I to propose building a site like this for your business I'd likely ask for $500-750. Constrast that with what you could do for yourself. Almost any hosting company will provide you
an interactive tool to build your own basic site, including some plug-ins for e-commerce and forms. It would come free with your hosting fee. So why on earth would you pay someone like me to
do something you can do for yourself for nothing?
When You Shouldn't Go Custom
If you're building a website with a moderate number of pages and little or no interactivity then a standard website builder is probably well within your capabilities. Most hosting companies
offer their own custom tools, and most also accept tools that are in wide use in the industry, such as WordPress and Joomla.
You can do a lot with these tools, and with a little patience and experimentation can make a very capable web presence.
When You Should Go Custom
Do you envision a website that
- Has custom applications for users to interact with your business and your data
- Will have exactly the look and feel you want
- Is distinctive from other sites, especially other sites in your industry
- Ranks high in search results
- Doesn't take up a lot of your valuable time to build and maintain
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you'll want to at least consider a custom web design from a web developer like us.
Custom or Not?
The answer is based on your business's needs. During our free consultation we'll discuss which option is best for you. If the best way for you
to meet your goals is with a standard tool, that's what we'll recommend. We can provide the training and initial set up that will get you up and running. And, of course, we'll always
be available to take your site to the next level.
